Carpark Retaining Wall

It's been a while since I last posted, but with work and school, I've been a little busy.
Sooooo, I was going post all my projects that I have done in the order that they were done in, but because I might start something then move onto something else for the time being, it's becoming really difficult.

So I am just going to post them up project by project in nparticular order.

Spring has been an gone and it's been nice to see a lot of the new plants take off and even see some of them flower already.

This was the original layout. That horrible grey-leaved plant had to go as it was just a total mess harbouring spiders, lots of dead branches inside and it's also non-native. The other trees were actually growing out from in between the steel wall retainers. With the Wellington winds, it was just a matter of time until they snapped so they had to go too!

After the trees were removed. You can see the stumps of where they were growing out of the wall. You can also see where I have planted some succulents in the gaps of the lower retaining wall. I filled the gap with potting mix and retained it with cut cardboard. It was quite labor intensive so decided it wasn't worth doing the rest of the wall. I decided on a different option as you will see shortly.

After replanting. The succulents have taken off, but they don't provide the root support we need to prevent erosion. Along the top I've planted 3 Kōwhai ngutukākā (commonly known as Kakabeak or Clianthus Maximus) which are nice climbers with red parrot beak shaped flowers. I also planted a Mikoikoi (NZ Iris/Libertia Grandiflora) at each end and 2 Rengarenga (Renga Lily/Arthropodium Cirratum) between the Kōwhai ngutukākā.

Trellis and riverstones added. I just 2 pieces of trellis and stained them with a charcoal wood stain. You can still see the woodgrain, plus the wood will be a little more protected from the elements.

The Kōwhai ngutukākā have really taken off since this picture as well as the Rengarenga on the left side. I'll have to take another picture to show you. But that's it for the moment. Chur!
